by By The Index · September 05, 2012

No one was home at 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 21, when a house fire at 500 E. Third St. displaced a West Liberty family.

The house, which had been divided into a duplex, according to Muscatine County records, is owned by Crystal Associates Inc. of 1259 Hwy 70 in West Liberty. That is also the home address for Rick and Linda Hora, who could not be reached immediately for comment.

Attempts to reach residents of the apartments, whose names were not released by authorities, were also unsuccessful.

According to a press release from the Red Cross, the organization worked to make sure the needs of the family a single mother with three children were met, including clothing, shelter and food.

Firefighters from the West Liberty and Atalissa departments fought the fire for about two hours. One of the apartments was damaged, firefighters said, but was not a total loss.
