The Wapsie Legends 4-H Club met Sept. 9, 2012, at the First Church United in West Liberty. The meeting was called to order by President Jazmyn Partida. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Katlyn Skubal. The Secretary’s report was read by Jazmyn Partida and then a motion was made by Luke Dennis with a second by Sara Burlage to approve the minutes. Caleb Anderson gave the treasurer’s report. There were no bills presented.
In old business, a report was given on the club’s participation at the county and state fairs this summer. Premium checks will be distributed at the October meeting.
For new business, new committees were formed and members brainstormed ideas for the coming year. Committee reports were given by Margaret Williams, Marissa McMichael and Jazmyn Partida.
The 4-H county Fun Run will be held Oct. 13, in Muscatine. National 4-H week will be October 7-13 and club members volunteered to promote it. The club’s annual Family Awards Event will be held Oct. 14 at First Church United.
Discussion then revolved around the club’s purchase of sympathy plants. A motion was made by Sara Burlage, with a second by Luke Burlage, to purchase sympathy plants with a spending limit. After further discussion, a motion was made by Caleb Anderson, with a second by Luke Dennis, to set the limit at $35. Lastly, the club discussed the purchase of a club camera, but tabled the discussion until the next meeting.
The election of officers was then held for the 2012-2013 year. The following officers were elected: President: Jazmyn Partida; Vice-President: Margaret Williams; Secretary: Luke Dennis; Treasurer: Sara Burlage; Historian: Alexis Partida and Photographer: Marissa McMichael.
The 4-H Pledge was led by Sara Burlage. A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Caleb Anderson and seconded by Alexis Partida. Refreshments were served by Marissa McMichael.
The next meeting will be held Oct. 14, 2012, at First Church United.
