Regina Head Coach Megan Streb said, “We hung in there. We played well at times, but we just couldn’t get over the hump.”
West Liberty Head Coach Melissa Brockway was pleased with how her team worked through their mistakes. “ I was really proud of the front line for always working through their errors and always working to find the next hole on the court. I think they did a really good job of rising above their errors, rising about the other team’s good plays, and always finding a way to score.
“It was very important that (Regina) gave us a good fight. We got beat up on last weekend at the Muscatine tournament. It was a very good experience for us to experience failure.”
With no matches last week, the Comets have had time to work on their game. “We’ve really had time to break down the fundamentals and just prepare,” Brockway said. “We worked a lot on using our serve as a weapon, and I think it showed tonight.”
The Comets’ next match is against Wilton Sept. 12 at West Liberty. It is the team’s breast cancer awareness night, and people have the opportunity to donate a set amount of money, or they can pledge a certain amount per dig. Wear pink.
