Earl “Bill” Hunter, 96, of Lone Tree, died on Monday, Sept. 24, 2012, at Country View in North Liberty. Funeral services for Bill were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012, at the Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Lone Tree. Burial was in the Lone Tree Cemetery with full military rites provided by Lone Tree American Legion Post 457. Following the committal, a time of food and fellowship was held at the Lone Tree Community Building. Visitation was held on Sunday, Sept. 30, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Country View in North Liberty or American Cancer Society in memory of Bill. Earl William Hunter was born Sept. 4, 1916, in Chicago to Earl and Charlotte J. (Bushmeyer) Hunter. On Sept. 1, 1951, Bill was united in marriage to Miriam Wiese in Aledo, Ill. Bill was a salesman for Iowa City Plumber’s Supply and Heating from 1951-1983. He was a member of Lone Tree American Legion Post 457 and the VFW in Decorah. Bill enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing, hunting, going to the casino, playing cards and drinking scotch. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan.
Bill will be missed by his children: Karl L. Hunter of Albany, Ill.; Linda S. Brenneman and her husband, Larry, of Ocoee, Fla.; David L. Hunter and his wife, Connie, of Pocatello, Idaho; Charlotte A. Robbins of Miami; and William R. Hunter of Arkansas; 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Miriam; one son, Daniel R. Hunter; and three sisters.
