The Atalissa Community Fire Department hosted an open house on Sunday from 1 to 4p.m. for the public to check out the fire station and equipment, as well as meet volunteer firefighters and EMTs.
A few dozen men, women and children met in and outside the station to enjoy some good company and handmade ice-cream. Gene Hammons, Atalissa fire chief, said this is the first time they hosted an open house. He thought it was a good idea to kick off National Fire Prevention Week.
“People like to get together to shoot the breeze,” Hammons said.
