The retail window hours at the Atalissa Post Office will be cut from eight hours a day to four, according to Wendy Berg, manager of post office operations.
Berg was met by 12 concerned community members, including children and post office employees, inside the Atalissa Post Office on Oct. 18. The meeting was scheduled by the United States Post Office after sending out surveys to 399 Atalissa residents. Berg said 155 responded. Of the responses, 87 percent asked for the post office to remain open, with different hours. A total of 12 residents voted to close the office and change to rural delivery. Three voted to close the post office and get mail delivered to another post office. One person voted to open a village post office. To keep the post office open with the same hours was not an option on the survey.
