Mary O. Carter, 85, died Friday, Oct. 19, 2012, at the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty.
A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty. Burial will be in the Oak Ridge Cemetery in West Liberty. A memorial fund has been established. Online condolences may be made to the family at hendersonbarkerfuneralhome.com.
Mary was born Feb. 5, 1927, in West Liberty, the daughter of Dewey and Marcia (Curtis) Patterson. She was a graduate of West Liberty High School in the Class of 1944 and attended Iowa City Mercy Nursing School. On June 22, 1962, she was united in marriage to A. J. “Bud” Carter.
She had been employed with Owen’s Brush Co., West Liberty School System in the lunchroom and the Simpson Memorial Home. She enjoyed the outdoors, spending time at their cabin on the Cedar River and fishing. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing reading and the time spent with her family and grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband Bud Carter of West Liberty; children Sherry Grable (Wayne Hartwig) of Solon; Terry (Ramonne) Hudson of Davie, Fla., Robert (Mary) Hudson of Fairfax and James Hudson of Iowa City; grandchildren Heather (Ray) Carrizales, Marcy (Kurt) Weber, Eric Hudson and Sonia Hudson; great-grandchildren Maya, Cole, Ava and Cade Carrizales and Whitney and Kalli Weber; sister Norma Bryan of Pensacola, Fla; brothers Robert (Janet) Patterson of West Des Moines and Richard (Betsy) Patterson of Muscatine.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
