Advertisement Elementary elections bring school together
by By Lindsey Jackson · October 24, 2012

Speeches for the position of secretary, treasurer, historian, vice president and president were given by 14 fifth-grade students at West Liberty Elementary School last Monday. School counselor Halli Sanford-Ryan, who helped start the student council three years ago, said this was an unusual election year. “This year there were many more girls than boys,” Sandford-Ryan said. “Usually we have at least one boy running for each position. This year we had a total of three boys running, two of which ran for the same position – president.”

Sanford-Ryan addressed the audience by explaining the process each candidate had to complete in order to run for office.

“I want to congratulate each person up here. They have worked really hard to be here,” Sanford-Ryan said.
