Student election results come in

By Lindsey Jackson · Wednesday, October 31, 2012
On Oct. 23, 14 fifth-grade students gave speeches in the West Liberty Elementary School gym to run for positions in student council. The school’s counselor Halli Sanford-Ryan has mentored this program since its inception. This was the third election. She said a lot of candidates had to jump through hoops in order to get to this spot. Each elected official is required to attend after-school council meetings twice per month. The following are the new officers of West Liberty Elementary.

Talen Dengler was elected president. He said he decided to run for office because he wanted to be the first boy president at West Liberty Elementary. “Last year I knew I was going to run because I wanted to be the first boy,” Dengler said. “We have done this for two years and they have all been girls.”
