Football season ends in Mediapolis

It was a tough end to a pretty good season for the West Liberty Comets football team Oct. 29 as they faced second-ranked Mediapolis at Mediapolis, falling to the Bulldogs 42-6 in the second round of the playoffs.

Mepo showed right away why they’re a highly-ranked team with a big return on the Comets’ kickoff to start the game. Cole Roszell ran the Bulldog out of bounds. Both players careened into the benches on the West Liberty sideline, and a personal foul was assessed on the Comets. Mediapolis began their drive at the West Liberty 34. A rushing play resulted in a seven-yard gain, then Nick Boehme and Roszell chased down the quarterback, and Boehme got the tackle for a three-yard loss. The Bulldogs were called for a delay of game making it third and long, but the next play was a touchdown pass. The PAT was good, and Mepo led 7-0 with 10:04 left in the first quarter.
