West Liberty girls hold on to win over Lisbon

The West Liberty girls’ basketball team built up a big lead, saw it slip away, but held on to win 43-41 against Lisbon at West Liberty Nov. 27.

The Lions scored the first basket of the game on a putback. Senior Kristi Feldman made a basket and was fouled. She completed the three-point play, and the Comets had a 3-2 lead. The Lions traveled but got a defensive rebound. They traveled again. Kayla Kaalberg got an offensive rebound for West Liberty, and Marissa Kelly hit her first trey of the night for a 6-2 Comets lead. Molly Kelly got a steal, but the Comets turned the ball over. Marissa Kelly got a steal and was fouled on a shot. She hit both free throws for an 8-2 Comets lead with 4:25 on the clock. Molly Kelly got a defensive board, then Kennedi Simon scored on a putback basket. Lisbon scored on a jump shot, then Kaalberg hit the second of two free throws for an 11-4 West Liberty lead. K. Simon got a defensive rebound then a basket, assist Hayley Simon. At the end of one quarter, West Liberty had a 13-4 lead.
