West Liberty men fail to steal beer from Jeff’s Market

Three West Liberty residents and one Muscatine resident were arrested on Dec. 1 after allegedly attempting to steal two 24-packs of Budweiser from Jeff’s Market along Third Street in West Liberty.

According to court documents, Eric Montelongo, 26, of West Liberty, was identified by store employees after trying to distract them while Juan Montelongo, 23, of West Liberty, and Carlos Galvez, 18, of Muscatine, both attempted to walk out of Jeff’s Market with two unpaid 24-packs of beer.

Officers arrived at the scene and attempted to take the suspects into custody. The documents state the three suspects lunged and charged at officers and also resisted arrest. The three men were charged with theft and interference with official acts. A fourth suspect, De La Trinidad Montelongo, 42, of West Liberty, was arrested for interference with official acts after physically assaulting officers while they were placing a subject into custody.
