Advertisement Singing Messiah
by By Lindsey Jackson · December 14, 2012

Last summer First Church United choir director Susan Lehman along with organist Marianne Phelps and Pastor Marian Hart came up with an idea to orchestrate a performance of G.F. Handel’s “Messiah” which will take place at 3 p.m. on Sunday. With help, they began advertising in West Liberty and neighboring communities seeking individuals who were interested in performing.

“It has become an inter-community production,” Phelps said. “We have singers from Iowa City, Atalissa, Nichols and West Liberty.”

Phelps said a performance of the “Messiah” took place at the church in the ’80s and a couple more times at other churches in West Liberty over the years. But she said this is the last time this church will do this.
