In the city council meeting held on Dec. 4, Mayor Chad Thomas declared the Dodransbicentennial celebration of the city of West Liberty. “Most of you probably know that 2013 will be the 175th anniversary of the founding of the city of West Liberty,” Thomas said. “Local volunteers have been doing a lot of work to arrange things so people can celebrate.” He referenced that the city of West Liberty honors the hard work of its early citizens who loved their thriving community.

“The city of West Liberty, Iowa, marks its 175th anniversary by celebrating its citizens, volunteers, elected officials and staff who strive to preserve and enhance the community of today. Honor the past, celebrate the present and embrace the future.”

Thomas also stated a kick-off event has been planned for January 5, 2013.

“It should be a good year,” he said. “Lots of historical things planned.”
