by By Lindsey Jackson · December 20, 2012

Atalissa City Council members discussed the city’s attempt to keep garbage collection rates down by encouraging residents to recycle. “Our garbage hauler said the more recycling we have, the less they take to the landfill,” Black said.

Currently, Atalissa garbage customers get recycling picked up every other week. Beginning in January, garbage collection days will change from every Monday to every Wednesday and recycling days will move to every Wednesday. Black said garbage will be picked up on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.

She also said the council is trying to get flyers out to residents to let them know recycling bins are available at city hall, or customers can also use a personal bin. According to Black, utility bills will remain the same even after the change in January.
