No, this isn’t a rallying cry for the “War On Christmas.”
It’s going to be a rough holiday season for people of all faiths across the eastern seaboard. Disaster following disaster has hit the Northeast, coupled with four years of recession, a lot of people don’t have much to be thankful for. That’s why we need to remember the true meaning of Christmas.
A lot of us celebrate the birth of Christ without putting much thought into why we celebrate His birth in the first place.
Many of us are celebrating the birth of a man whose ideas changed the world without considering what those ideas were. They certainly weren’t about buying gifts for our children or excluding others based on race, religion or sexuality. He taught us generosity, forgiveness and compassion.
Maybe this year we can purchase one fewer video game or doll and donate our money, or time, to a good cause. Because when we celebrate Him, we’re not just celebrating his birth, we’re celebrating the ideas that bring us together without hate or violence and with love and compassion.
