Celebrate 175 years of West Liberty
We wanted to share news about an upcoming event for all members of West Liberty and the surrounding area. Next year, 2013, marks the 175th anniversary of West Liberty. A group of community volunteers, led by Ken Donnelly, have been working countless hours to plan events throughout 2013 to commemorate this anniversary.
West Liberty’s 175th anniversary celebration kicks off with a birthday open house on January 5, 2013, at the West Liberty Community Center from 5 to 8:30 p.m. The event is open to the public and will begin with cocktail hour 5 to 6 p.m., sandwiches 6 to 7 p.m. and a very short program beginning at 7 p.m. The program will portray a historical perspective of three individual lives throughout West Liberty’s history and highlight all the upcoming events which are planned throughout 2013. Many historical items will be on display that evening. There will be an unveiling of the 175th anniversary banners which were purchased by the Chamber of Commerce and will be displayed downtown all year long. The banners will showcase the new logo created to commemorate this anniversary. The logo and theme represent the past, present and future and focus specifically on “Putting Unity into Community”. In addition, two handmade quilts (created by Letha Ottaway and Gretchen Little) will be on display depicting the history of West Liberty through pictures. We are inviting you to the festivities there will be cake, sandwiches, music, historical memorabilia and a great opportunity to enjoy one another’s fellowship.
West Liberty has a rich history and this upcoming year is going to be an exciting time to reminisce, participate in events and contribute to the continued growth of West Liberty.
If you would like further information about the January 5 kick-off celebration or would like to become involved please contact the Chamber office at 319-627-4876 or “like us” on the Chamber’s Facebook page.
