As a member of the West Liberty Area Arts Council, I am very grateful to the West Liberty Index and Lindsey Jackson for the article published in the paper on Feb. 14, covering the community art classes sponsored by WLAAC. Karel Cline taught a drawing class sponsored by WLAAC four years ago that has continued to this day and is now called the West Liberty Drawing Group. It was this class specifically that has had a huge impact on a few people in West Liberty. Most of the people who were in that original class, including Clare Palmer, didn’t have experience in art prior to Karel’s class. This class has met nearly every Saturday for four years. I am one of the lucky students who has benefited because Karel has been willing to share her knowledge and talent. I am now teaching a class in painting on silk because I too believe everyone can benefit from art. I would love it if my class enhanced the lives of my students even a smidgeon as much as Karel’s class has enhanced the lives of her students. I also want to thank the Ryan Trust for making these classes possible. Now go call Cara McFerren and sign up for this year’s WLAAC art classes.
