Henderson places at state

West Liberty High School junior Elliot Henderson placed eighth in the 120-pound weight class at the Iowa State Wrestling Tournament in Des Moines. West Liberty is in class 2A.
Henderson started the tournament with a win over Grant Sherman of Saydel. Henderson started the match down by three points, but pulled back to win 6-3. “He just stayed persistent and stayed on his offense,” said West Liberty head coach Jeff Wiele.
In his second bout, Henderson fell to Leighton Gaul from New Hampton in a 17-2 decision. In the losers’ bracket Henderson immediately rebounded with a 7-5 win over Dillon Cox of Atlantic securing the eighth place position at the tournament.
