Duane Dotson, 90, Atalissa


Duane A. Dotson, 90, of Atalissa died Thursday, June 27, at Cedar Manor Nursing Home in Tipton.

Duane, son of Shirrel and Ethel Crees Dotson, was born May 21, 1923, in Cedar County, Iowa. In 1924 he moved to the farm where he resided for the rest of his life. He was a graduate of Springdale High School and on November 13, 1954, Duane was united in marriage to Maralee Joyce Williams at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

Duane devoted his life to his family and farming. He was a member of Tipton Bible Church, the Iowa Bowling Association, committeeman for Cedar County ASCS, and a 50 year member of the Spotted Poland Association

Duane is loved and survived by his wife, Maralee Dotson of Atalissa; daughters, Becky (David) Mills of West Liberty, Sandra (Dave) Duncan of Austin, Texas, Dana (Kevin) Pfister of West Liberty, Krista (Andy) DeRiemacker of Atalissa, Ann Dotson (Darryll Alke) of West Liberty; son, Jim (Teri) Dotson of Wilton; 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marilyn, daughter, Diane, and brothers, Glenn and Carl.

There will be a visitation at Fry Funeral Home in Tipton from 3-6 p.m. on Sunday, June 30. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 1, at Fry Funeral Home. Pastor Jonathan Smith will be officiating.

Casket bearers will include grandsons Brade DeRiemacker, Jeremy Dotson, Robert Dotson and Eric Adams, as well as David Kirchner and Bill Kofron who are like sons to Duane and Maralee. Honorary casket bearers are Donald Owen, Jack Simon, Don Pelzer, Lane Reid, and Bryan Regenitter. The burial will be at the West Liberty Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Tipton Bible Church or Cedar Manor Nursing Home in memory of Duane. Condolences may be shared at fryfuneralhome.com.
