St. Joseph Catholic Church in West Liberty has welcomed a new administrator who is fluent in both English and Spanish.

Father Joseph Sia will be responsible for Masses, baptisms, marriages, preparations, funerals and parish councils. The current administrator, Rev. Gregory Steckel, will continue with the church as an assistant pastor.

For the past five years, Sia has been associate pastor at Ss. Mary & Mathias in Muscatine and St. Joseph in Columbus Junction. He will continue his work in Columbus Junction alongside West Liberty.

"I plan to have a scheduled rotation where, at one point or the other, I will be at all Masses," Sia said. "Although I do speak Spanish, I plan to serve people of all origins."

Sia was born and raised in the Philippines. He graduated from the University of Philippines with a degree in medical sciences and later received a doctor of medicine.

He worked as a graduate research assistant at the University of Iowa and completed theology studies at the University of St. Mary of the Lake Seminary in Mundelein, Ill.
