Richard E. Schlimmer, 68, of Grand Mound, died Thursday morning, Aug. 22, 2013, at home.
Richard Eugene Schlimmer was born Aug. 2, 1945, in Davenport to Marvin and Genevieve (McKillip) Schlimmer. He was a graduate of Davenport West High School and attended various trade schools. Richard worked as a draftsman right out of high school and later worked as a tool engineer. On July 26, 1964, he married Kaye McRoberts in Muscatine.
He enjoyed family time, coaching his boys in Little League, golfing and computers. Richard was recognized for his work in setting up snowmobile trails in eastern Iowa. He was an adult education instructor at Muscatine Community College. Richard also directed the Colt Cadets Drum and Bugle Corp in Dubuque for several years.
Surviving are his loving wife of 49 years, Kaye; sons, Tony Schlimmer of Grand Mound and Jeffery (Cindy) Schlimmer of Mesa, Ariz.; grandchildren, Nicole, Autumn, Megan, Audrey, Cassidy, Luke, Tate, Trinitii and Tiffanii; great-grandchildren, Bradyn and Layla; a brother, Don (Lenore) Schlimmer of Wilton, and Deb (Don) Hartley of Lone Tree; nieces and nephews.
Preceding Richard in death were his parents.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the Pulmonary Hypertension Association or Heartland Hospice.
