Lois Jeanne Christofferson, 87, formerly of Nichols, died Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013, at the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty.
Lois Jeanne was born Oct. 2, 1925, near Conesville, the daughter of Ardie and Elva Probst Edgar. She attended country school and graduated from Conesville High School in 1943 where she lettered in basketball. On June 21, 1946, she was united in marriage to Edward Christofferson in Muscatine. They lived in rural Nichols all their life.
She enjoyed bowling and watching men’s and women’s Hawkeye Basketball. She was an excellent cook and prepared meals for many family gatherings.
Survivors include one son, Dan (Jeannette) Christofferson; three grandchildren, Sandra Christofferson, John (Kori) Christofferson and Josh (Melinda) Christofferson; 12 great-grandchildren, Cale, Troy, Ava, Josie, Jacob, Patrick, Levi, Caleb, Zach, Memphis, Cooper and Elle; two great-great-grandchildren, Chance and James Daniel due in October. She is also survived by two sisters, Gwen Shoemaker and Billie (Bob) Osborne; one sister in law, Marty Edgar. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Edward in 1978, sisters Eloise and Shirley, and a brother, John.
Graveside service will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, Sept. 27, at the Nichols Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty.
