Cecil L. Stalkfleet, 79, of West Liberty, formerly of Nichols, passed away peacefully in the arms of his loving wife on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, at Bickford Cottage in Muscatine.
Cecil LaVerne Stalkfleet was born Nov. 2, 1933, in Muscatine County, the son of Frank F. and Jessie M. (Mills) Stalkfleet. On July 3, 1954, Cecil was united in marriage to Carolyn Reece in Mt. Pleasant. He was a farmer in the Nichols area.
Cecil was a member of the West Liberty Country Club and enjoyed golfing, bowling, going to the casino, having coffee with the boys at Casey’s in Nichols and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Cecil will be missed by his wife, Carolyn of West Liberty; children, Monica J. Bieri and husband, Jim, of Letts and Sheri Kustka and husband, John, of Janesville, Wis.; six grandchildren, Chantz Bieri, Chad Bieri, Devinn Smith, Beau Bieri, Leah Smith and Stacie Bieri; 17 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Frank Stalkfleet and wife, Janet, of Nichols and LeRoy Stalkfleet and wife, Carol, of rural Muscatine and sister, Gladys Rowe, of Wapello.
Cecil was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Dea Stalkfleet; five brothers, Lloyd Stalkfleet, Art Stalkfleet, Don Stalkfleet, Harold Stalkfleet and Lee Stalkfleet; and five sisters, Dorothy Sindt, Helen Walsh, Donna Merchant, Mary Mize and Vera Jean Gerling.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 25, at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. The burial was in the Nichols Cemetery. Casket bearers were Cecil’s grandchildren.
Visitation for Cecil was held on Tuesday, Sept. 24, from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in memory of Cecil. Sympathy notes may be left for the family at lewisfuneralhomes.com.
