Vanola A. Siems, 88, of Durant, died on Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013 at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus, Davenport.
Vanola was born Sept. 15, 1925 to Willie and Leona (Wulf) Meincke in Muscatine County. She married Arthur C. Siems on Sept. 9, 1944 in Davenport. He preceded her in death on Feb. 15, 1984.
Vanola and Art farmed in Cedar County until 1964. She later worked as a cook in the cafeteria at the Durant Community Schools for 30 years.
She was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Durant. She enjoyed crocheting, working word search puzzles and working in her yard. In early years, she and Art enjoyed dancing and camping. Above all, she loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them.
She is survived and lovingly remembered by her daughter, Cyndi and husband Steve Shield of West Liberty; grandchildren, Mark Holladay (Amanda Lund) and Aaron Holladay, both of Wilton; and her great-grandchildren, Makenzee Lund, Madison, Hunter and Eryn Holladay.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister LaVonne Wells and her brother Leo Meincke.
Visitation was held on Sunday, Nov. 10, from 2-4 p.m., at the Bentley Funeral Home in Durant.
Graveside services were held on Monday, Nov. 11, at 10:30 a.m. at the Durant Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Makenzee Lund, Madison Holladay, Mark Holladay, Aaron Holladay, Kevin Wells and Randy Geurink.
