Star Tree Project delivers the goods
by Mary Atkinson · January 02, 2014

For almost 20 years local organizations and members of the community have banded together to help Santa Claus make Christmas morning brighter for families that need a little extra help.

The 'Star Tree' project, by the Voluntary Action Council (VAC), is a collaboration of many local organizations, churches, and members of the community.

Every year trees are placed at local banks during the annual holiday open house. People pick stars from the trees that contain a child's gender and age.

Afterward, they bring back gifts which are sorted and bagged and given to families, along with boxes of food just before Christmas Eve.

The VAC distributed the goods on Dec. 20-21 this year. Beforehand they spent days sorting and packaging everything.
