Girls get the win|

The West Liberty girls' basketball team notched a win over the visiting Bellevue Comets Jan. 20, 56-48.
"We had a couple girls step up for us to score 56 points, averaging 27; everyone contributed tonight," West Liberty Head Coach Nick Heath said. "It was a complete game for the most part. I'm proud of them.
They played a great game. They made their free throws down the stretch and took care of the ball for the most part.
"Not being in that situation all year, really, I thought we responded well. We were down by seven at halftime. I told them seven is nothing. We can come back. We tied it at one point, then they still took a three-point lead at the start of the fourth quarter. We fought back and outscored them. It was a great game."
Bellevue scored the first six points on a putback basket, two free throws and another putback basket. West Liberty called a time out with 4:51 on the clock. West Liberty double dribbled, but Molly Kelly got a defensive rebound and Hailey Daufeldt scored inside for West Liberty's first score of the game. Bellevue made two more free throws to take an 8-2 lead.
Later on Kelly made a three-pointer at the buzzer for an 11-9 Bellevue lead at the end of the first quarter.
Bellevue scored the first two baskets of the second quarter, both on inbound passes and quick baskets. Kelly chased down a loose ball and made another three-point basket for a 15-12 score. Bellevue answered with a trey.
Kelly got a steal and drove to the hoop, drawing a foul. She made the second of two free throws. Audra Bridenstine got a defensive rebound and Kelly made another three-pointer for an 18-16 Bellevue lead with 5:19 left in the first half.
Bellevue turned the ball over, then fouled Daufeldt. She made the first of two free throws; Bellevue got the rebound, then scored a putback basket.
Later on Bellevue went on a run to end the first half, scoring eight unanswered points on two two-pointers, a free throw and a three-point basket at the buzzer. Going into the locker room, Bellevue held a 30-23 lead.
Bellevue had the ball and turned it over to start the third quarter. Daufeldt scored for West Liberty. Bellevue made a layup. The Comets turned the ball over, but Kayla Kaalberg got a steal and a layup for a 32-27 score. Bellevue was fouled and made the second of two free throws.
Later on Daufeldt got a defensive rebound, Bellevue got a defensive board, then C. Simon got a defensive rebound. Daufeldt scored, assist Kaalberg, for a 35-35 tie with 2:30 left in the third quarter.
Anderson got a steal and layup, then Bellevue tied it again with an inside bucket. Bellevue got a steal and was fouled on a shot. They made the second of two free throws. A jump ball went to West liberty, but Bellevue got a steal on the inbounds pass. Anderson got a steal, but Bellevue stole it back. With 24.2 seconds on the clock, Bellevue was fouled and made both free throws for a 40-37 Bellevue lead going into the fourth quarter.
Early on Anderson got a steal and a layup to stretch the West Liberty lead to 47-44. Bellevue took a time out. Daufeldt got a steal and a layup with 4:02 remaining, and the West Liberty lead was five.
West Liberty turned the ball over, and Bellevue made a basket. A jump ball went to West Liberty, then Bellevue picked up a couple of fouls (their third and fourth team fouls of the half). West Liberty fouled Bellevue (the team seventh of the half), and Bellevue made both free throws, cutting the West Liberty lead to 49-48 with 2:20 to go.
The Comets turned the ball over on a five-second call. Bellevue was fouled on a putback try. Both free throws were missed, and Daufeldt grabbed the rebound. With 1:40 to go and a one-point lead, West Liberty called a time out.
West Liberty turned the ball over, then Kelly got a defensive rebound. Bellevue picked up their sixth team foul of the half with 1:16 to go. Bridenstine scored, assist Daufeldt, for a 51-48 West Liberty lead.
Kaalberg was fouled with 51.9 seconds to go. Her first free throw bounced around before going in. The second went in as well for a 53-48 lead. The Comets missed a free throw, but Bridenstine got the rebound and was fouled. She made both free throws for a 55-48 lead. Anderson got a defensive rebound and was fouled with 22 seconds to go. She made the first of two free throws for a 56-48 lead. Bellevue got the rebound but did not score.
The final was 56-48, West Liberty.
"I thought West Liberty played with a lot of energy," Bellevue Head Coach Tim Roth said. "They got loose balls, they got some run-outs on us. We missed some layups in the first half. We could have had a little bigger lead. We kind of started missing shots. They made some and made free throws down the stretch and got the win. Their kids played well."
