Comets compete in sectionals

The West Liberty Comets wrestling team competed in sectionals at Davenport Assumption on Feb 8.

Dylan VanDusen was crowned Champion at 285.  VanDusen received a bye in the first round, recorded a fall over Crawford (L&M) and then pinned Hayen (CCD) in the finals.

VanDusen is ranked No. 8 among Class 2A heavyweights by The Predicament and improved his record to 31-6.

Elliott Henderson received a bye, then defeated Everson (CAMA) in a major decision 10-0, going on to win the 120-pound title with a 1-0 decision over Assumption's Brendan Gould.

West Liberty finished third in the team standings with 165.5 points.

In wrestle back matches  West Liberty's 138-pound Jakob Barten defeated Rinnert (LOMU) 11-6, then lost to Cruz (NGL) 9-4.

Mason Tvrs beat McDowell (CCD) in a fall in 3:19, then lost a 3-2 decision to Adrian (ASDA) at 220 pounds.

Schedule for upcoming regional wrestling Feb. 15 at DeWitt.

120 pounds: Elliot Henderson, West Liberty, 37-4 vs. Logan Reilly, West Delaware, 16-14;

Dalton Husmann, Monticello, 38-3 vs. Brendan Gould, Davenport Assumption, 31-4.

285 pounds: Dylan VanDusen, West Liberty, 31-6 vs. Richard Heveron, West Delaware, 24-17.

Daniel Pike, Monticello, 34-3 vs. Doug Hayen, Central DeWitt, 19-16.

Those in first and second place advance to the State Wrestling Tournament at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines Feb. 19-22.
