Riley Anderson, senior at West Liberty high school, was recognized by Gov. Terry Branstad and Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds, May 17, for outstanding academic achievement.
Part of the annual Governor's Scholar Recognition Ceremony at Hy-Vee Hall in Des Moines, the statewide program honored 435 high school seniors from throughout Iowa.
The program is sponsored by the Iowa Governor's office, the Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) and the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation (IFBF).
High schools nominated students with the highest academic rating based on grade point average from his or her first seven semesters. Selected students had the opportunity to recognize their favorite and most influential teachers.
According to the press release, 99 percent of those recognized participate in extracurricular activities, 80 percent in at least one interscholastic sport and more than 60 percent plan to continue their education in Iowa.
Students received a photo from their meeting with the governor and Lt. Governor.
