Wednesday, July 30, 2014
Andy Eckrich was able to overtake race leader Kyle Hinrichs, July 26, due to a late race caution in Saturday nights Ideal Ready Mix Tri-Track Challenge IMCA iWireless 40 lap Late Model race at the West Liberty Raceway.

Hinrichs led the first 33 laps before the caution bunched the field setting up the late race charge by Eckrich. Justin Kay also came on strong in the late going crossing the finish line second.

The Performance Concepts IMCA Modified feature saw Jerry Luloff and Mike Weikert both pull their cars to victory lane on Saturday night. The race was won by Luloff by less than a foot at the finish line. The two veterans raced wheel to wheel for nearly half of the 20 lap feature.

Brandon Jay broke David Brandies stronghold on the Kile Motorsports IMCA Stock Car division by scoring a very popular win on Saturday night. Jay scored the win by less than a car length over Brandies.

Brayton Carter scored the win in the main event in the Weikert Iron & Metal IMCA Sportmod division. Carter took the win ahead of Austin Kaplan.

Shawn Slaughter took the win in the US 6 Bodyworks 10 lap feature topping a strong 16 car field.

Chad Holladay of Muscatine picked a perfect night to score his first iWireless IMCA Late Model feature win at the West Liberty Raceway a week earlier.

The Muscatine County Fair was in full swing Saturday, July 19, and a packed grandstand witnessed a very entertaining night of stock car racing. Holladay took off from his front row start and led every lap en route to an impressive win.

The field was bunched up twice in the late going due to minor cautions, but both times Holladay held off all challengers in scoring a very popular win.

At the same time, race fans, drivers and crews in attendance raised a staggering amount of money to help defray costs not covered by insurance for the Frank Springsteen family.

A total of $3,585 dollars were raised and will be delivered to the Springsteen family at the hospital in Iowa City by Keith Simmons of SPI, operator of the West Liberty Raceway.

Frank was with his son, IMCA Late Model driver Colby Springsteen, this past Wednesday at the Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa when the elder Springsteen was setting the vales on the engine of the Late Model.

The starter stuck and a spark ignited the fuel and severely burned Springsteen. Frank Springsteen was life flighted to the burn unit at the  University of Iowa Hospitals burn unit in Iowa City where he remains in critical but improving condition with severe burns.

Anyone wishing to contribute to the Springsteen fund can do so by sending a donation to Springsteen fund at the Farley Speedway office, 27317 Olde Farley Road, Farley, Iowa 52046

As for the other races of the evening, Rob Moss made a late race charge that came up just short in taking second at the checkers.

Chris Zogg broke out of a pack to take the lead near the midway point of the Performance Concepts IMCA Modifieds main event and went on to score his second win of the season at the West Liberty Raceway. Kurt Kile advanced from deep in the field to take second.

David Brandies continues to dominate the Kile Motorsports IMCA Stock Car Class. Saturday night's win for Brandies was his eighth of the 2014 season at the West Liberty Raceway.

Tony Olson scored the win in the Weikert Iron & Metal Sportmod division on Saturday night taking the checkers ahead of Colton Livezy.

Shawn Slaughter scored the 10 lap feature win in the US 6 Bodyworks Sport Compact division.

The West Liberty Raceway will not be racing on Saturday, Aug. 2, but will return to action with a big special event featuring Open Late Models on Tuesday, Aug. 5. The Coors Light Open Late Model Shootout will bring together the best in Late Model racing with a $10,000 first place prize awaiting the winner of the 50 lap main event. Brian Brirkhofer, Billy Moyer and last year's winner Jason Utter will headline a star studded field of Open Late Model drivers. The IMCA Late Models will be the companion division making for a night of all Late Model racing.

Hot laps on Aug. 5 will get underway with warmups at 6:30 p.m. with racing to follow.

Also, due to unforeseen circumstances, the officials of SPI are making an adjustment to the upcoming schedule regarding Makeup feature events from a rain shortened race program back on Saturday, June 28, at the West Liberty Raceway.

The iWireless IMCA Late Models and the Performance Concept IMCA Modifieds each have a feature to be made up. The IMCA Modifieds will race two features as part of the Saturday, Aug. 9 race program and the IMCA Late Models will run two feature events on Saturday, Aug. 16.
