At the state fair

West Liberty, Nichols and Atalissa were represented at the 2014 State Fair, here's what the Index has received so far….

During the 4-H Market Beef show on Wednesday at the state fair Payton Lorack, Nichols, achieved Reserve Champion All Other Breeds.

Showmanship awards were given on Saturday and Sunday to the top 4-H exhibitors of beef, sheep, swine and meat goats at the 2014 Iowa State Fair. Gracie Danner, West Liberty, was the beef champion for grades 9-10.

Andy Tygrett, Atalissa, placed more than 15 times in the Gladiolus Show, ultimately walking away with the Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion Three Spike titles. He was also awarded Runner-up to Reserve Champion Single Spike.

Tygrett placed in the following Gladiolus classes: White, third; Violet, Smokies, second and third; White W/M, Green, first; P Yellow, L Yellow, MD Yellow, first; PL Orange, MD Orange, first, second and third; D Lavender, Violet, Smokies, first and second; All 300-399, first; White through Salmon, first and third; Pink through Smokies, first and second; Design Class - Cottage Garden, fourth.

Huxley Rock, 4, son of Robbie and Nicole Rock of West Liberty, and Hailey Yoder, 5, daughter of Nathan and Justina Yoder of West Liberty, were selected to dance at the Iowa State Fair at the Bill Riley Talent Show.

The duet did a jazz routine to the song “Mickey” choreographed by Nicole Rock. The pair takes lessons at Nicole Rock's School of Dance.
