Eastern Iowa Publications is pleased to announce the addition of Andrea Grubaugh to the staff of the West Liberty Index and Wilton-Durant Advocate News as a general assignment reporter.

“As someone who has always enjoyed making connections and sharing the stories of others, I look forward to getting out into the community, meeting new people, and doing my part to provide local news to readers,” Grubaugh said.

“We are delighted to welcome Andrea to our staff,” said interim editor Erin M. Gentz. “She has a true joy for community journalism. She is a skilled reporter and has already demonstrated enthusiasm about getting to know each of the communities. We hope that you will enjoy getting to know her, too.”

Grubaugh most recently worked for the Muscatine Journal from 2019-2024. She is a 2017 graduate of Augustana College in Rock Island, where she majored in creative writing and minored in communications studies.

“Some of my favorite articles that I’ve written have been focused around the exciting achievements of local students and teachers,” said Grubaugh. “We’ve got some great school districts here, and I’m eager to shine an additional spotlight on them.”

She also worked as a freelance scriptwriter for the YouTube channel WickedBinge and as a screenwriting intern at Fresh Films Studios in Rock Island. Working at WickedBinge gave Grubaugh the opportunity to write about one of her hobbies, animation.

“Outside of the newsroom, I’m someone who’s passionate about books, movies and especially animation - if given the opportunity, I’m always happy to talk about my favorite cartoons and anime.”

Grubaugh will be based in Wilton and West Liberty. She may be contacted at adnews@netwtc.net or indexnews@lcom.net.
