Dionni "Pita" García-Vásquez se dirige a Orlando, Florida para estar en el equipo de Iowa Disney, pero necesita tu ayuda.
Esta estudiante de tercer año de West Liberty High School es hija de María Elena Vásquez y Eufracio García. Tiene dos hermanas: Silvia y Bricsia y dos hermanos: José y Jiovanni. García-Vásquez tiene una agenda muy ocupada. Actualmente toma clases en Muscatine Community College para especializarse en negocios y tambien trabaja en el asilo de Simpson como asistente de enfermería.
Además, tiene su propio negocio de bordado personalizado. Dionni ha sido porrista, jugadora de fútbol, atleta de atletismo, pero lo que más le gusta hacer es la lucha libre a tiempo completo. Este año, trabajó duro para mejorar sus habilidades de lucha libre. Estaba comprometida con el deporte y cinco días a la semana hacía ejercicio en el gimnasio de luchadores en West Liberty y tres días a la semana estaba en la Academia de Lucha Libre Femenina Sebolt en Muscatine. El arduo trabajo valió la pena porque calificó para luchar en el estatal, donde logró buenos resultados. La lucha libre ha sido crucial para ella porque desarrolló habilidades para practicar el deporte, pero lo más importante, una mentalidad de valentía y confianza. La luchadora dice: "Eres la reina del ring. El deporte te enseña cómo ser una dama fuera de la arena y cómo ser feroz dentro del ring". Actualmente, Dionni está recaudando fondos para cubrir el costo de su viaje, que incluye transporte (vuelos de ida y vuelta), estadía de una noche y campamento del equipo en la Universidad de St. Ambrose, camiseta del equipo de Iowa, camiseta cortada del equipo de Iowa, pantalones cortos, cena, hotel, pases para el parque, y alojamiento. This West Liberty High School junior is the daughter of Maria Elena Vasquez and Eufracio Garcia. She has two sisters: Silvia and Bricsia and two brothers: José and Jiovanni. Garcia-Vasquez has a busy schedule. She currently takes classes at Muscatine Community College for a Business major and currently works at Simpson Nursing Home as a CNA.
Additionally, she her own custom embroidery business. Dionni has been a cheerleader, soccer player, track athlete, but what she most loves doing is wrestling full time.This year, she worked hard to improve her wrestling skills. She is was committed to the sport and five days a week she was working out in the West Liberty room and three days a week, she is at the Sebolt Women's Wrestling Academy in Muscatine.
The hard work payed off because she qualified to wrestle at State Wrestling where she did very well. Pita is involved in Club Wrestling and recently, she took a trip up to Cedar Rapids for AAU and placed second. With this placement, she was given a golden ticket to take a trip to Orlando, Florida, to be on the Iowa Disney Team! Garcia-Vasquez was selected for the tournament because she beat threehighly ranked wrestlers to get to second place.
For this high schooler, getting to this moment has been worth all the sacrifices. Wrestling has been crucial for her because she developed skills to play the sport, but most importantly, a mentality of fearlessness and confidence. Wrestling taught her to dominate the mat. The wrestler says, "You are the queen of the mat. It teaches you how to be a lady off the mat and to be fierce on the mat."
The junior has advice for young girls looking to get involved in the sport. She says not to fear the sport. What helped her put her fears aside was studying her opponents, studying herself, learning what worked best for her, and realizing she can be beat, but so can other really good people. It is all about mindset and discipline, which will help you with anything else you face in life.
Dionni is currently fundraising to cover the cost of her trip which includes transportation (flying in and out), overnight stay and team camp at St. Ambrose University, Iowa team t-shirt, Iowa Team cut singlet, shorts, dinner, hotel, universal park hopper passes and universal resort accommodations. Her fundraising goal is $1,300, but she expects it to be more since Florida can get expensive.
