An orientation session Saturday will prepare participants for Eulenspiegel Puppet Theatre’s New Puppeteers Festival coming this spring.
The session is 2 p.m., Saturday Nov. 16, at the West Liberty Community Center at 1204 N Calhoun St.
At the May 3 festival, more than a dozen groups and individuals, aged eight through adult, all young to the art of puppetry, will present short original puppet plays. Groups will write their own plays and create their puppets and scenery.
Eulenspiegel puppeteers will provide free consultations and feedback. In exchange, each group will sign a letter of commitment, guaranteeing their participation throughout the process. The festival is supported in part by the Teri Jean Breitbach Memorial Fund, but as always Eulenspiegel welcomes donations to help defray expenses.
Saturday’s orientation session for potential participants is open to those eager to perform, or those interested in learning more.
Eulenspiegel puppeteers will demonstrate different types of puppets and staging, including hand puppets, rod puppets, shadow puppets, tabletop shows, crankies, and more. They will discuss the process of writing for puppets and will answer questions and ad-dress individual problems. The session will be shared on Facebook Live for people unable to attend in person.
