Boys narrowly defeat Bears in season opener

It's hard to get much closer margins than West Liberty and West Branch did in the first meet of the spring golf season.

West Liberty's boys' team defeated the Bears 165 to 170 on Thursday, March 28 while the girls fell 219 to 221 on the same day.

The boys golfed at Cedars Edge Golf Course while the girls had the benefit of home course advantage at West Liberty Country Club.

The Comet boys' individual scores were not posted as of Tuesday morning.

For West Branch, Paxton Tisinger led with a 40 over the nine-hole dual.

Cameron Gingerich (43), Reece Druecker (43), Sawyer Jeffries (44) and Reese Gingerich (47) completed the scoring.

On the girls' side, Bear senior Claire Jarrett led all golfers by seven strokes by posting a 44.

West Liberty had the next two lowest scorers in junior Addison Beaver (51) and freshman Kamryn Gilmore (54). 

The other top Comet scorers included junior Grace Ortiz (56), junior Kaylee Pelzer (60), senior Danahy Zamora (68) and senior Lizbeth Aleman (77).

For West Branch, their next best scorers were Julia Herring (56), McKenna Worrell (59), Olivia Thomas (60), Adelyn Hetrick (61), and Joelle Haas (83).
