Chamber of Commerce to hold new event in February

In February, the West Liberty Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a new event in town.

A Chamber A.M. will be at 8 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 7, at the WeLead building located at 199 East Third Street in West Liberty, according to the Chamber’s website. Lisa Wertzbaugher will be speaking to businesses about using social media to market their events and businesses online, Brooke said.

“It’s our very first Chamber A.M.,” said West Liberty Chamber of Commerce Director Charles Brooke. “I’m very excited about it. It’s a good kickoff event.”

The idea came after Brook noticed businesses struggling to market themselves different ways.

“One afternoon, after a meeting we (Lisa Wertzbaugher and Brooke) just talked about where I see all these challenges with a lot of our members on social media compared to marketing elsewhere and vice versa,” Brooke said. “They’re on social media but not anywhere else and so on and she just said, ‘We’ll let’s gather and get something going.’”

Wertzbaugher will talk about sales and marketing on different media platforms. She is a marketing consultant herself.

“I have been consulting on and off for 10 years,” Wertzbaugher said. “Companies typically hire me to help with business plan development and revenue growth. I also write a column and speak at business conferences once or twice a year.”

The pandemic changed how companies do sales and marketing.

“Traditional strategies did not disappear but new opportunities to engage with customers have been added to the mix,” Wertzbaugher said. “Social media is a big piece of this. It’s the marketing channel my clients struggle with the most but it’s also the channel that can give a business the largest return on investments. A little training and support can go a long way.”

Once Wertzbaugher is done with her presentation a short question and answer session will be held.

“We don’t want to take a lot of time (that morning),” Brooke said. “We want to make this short and sweet but impactful for anybody that wants to come so come and enjoy it.”

Brooke asks those wanting to attend the Chamber A.M. to sign up by emailing him at chamber@westlibertyiowa.com.
