Charles “Chuck” LeRoy Herrold, 83, of West Liberty, passed away peacefully March 22, 2025.
Visitation will be held 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday March 27 (today) at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday March 28, in the Floral Hall at the Muscatine County Fair Grounds.
Burial with military honors will be in the Oak Ridge Cemetery, West Liberty. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Iowa City Hospice.
Charles was born Nov. 3, 1941, to Lee and Rita (Askam) Herrold in Iowa City. He graduated from West Liberty High School in 1960. He then joined the U.S. Army in 1962 and served until 1967.
Nov. 22, 1963, he was united in marriage to Margine Lodge and resided in West Liberty where they farmed. Margine passed in 2010. He later married Kathy Hundoble in 2012 and they resided in West Liberty.
Chuck worked for Northern Propane after leaving the military. He had a love for livestock and bought cattle at the local auction barns and was a hog buyer for many years. He also owned horse and mule teams. Chuck was a well-known auctioneer for over 60 years. He enjoyed giving back to the community by volunteering his auctioneering services for local organizations.
Chuck enjoyed spending time with his grandson Dakota at all the local sale barns, hauling cattle, and spending time with friends and family.
He is survived by wife Kathy, four sons Tony (Janene), Corey (Jennifer), Courtney (Rebekka), Donnie (Heather) Hundoble; five daughters Alicia (Jeff) Emde, Pam Perry, Marsha Prokup, Melody (Brad) Anderson, Rhonda (Marvin) Reed; 22 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren; and sister Ruby Clemmons.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Margine, one grandson and one great-granddaughter.
