Comets place fourth in IVC golf tournament

Jones named to honorable mention team

Although West Liberty had five golfers shooting under 100, the Comet Boys of coach Nick Frenz could finish no better than fourth in the River Valley Conference tournament in Muscatine on Tuesday, May 3.

West Branch, with a trio of golfers shooting just over par for the Par 72 course, finished first with a 310 total to take the meet, finishing 27 strokes ahead of second place finisher and rival Tipton, who has 337. Monticello followed with a 360 score, just six strokes better than West Liberty, who tied Cascade for fourth place.

Anamosa followed with a 368 while Iowa City Regina turned in a 370, one better than Durant. North Cedar, Northeast and Camanche all had 373 team scores while Bellevue finished at 377, one stroke better than Wilton and Mid-Prairie was last with a 395 total.

Dylan Countryman, Brady Knoo, Will Bridges, Tristin Sorgenfry, Gavin Manternach and Mickey Takacs all made the conference’s Elite team with scores of 78 or better, Countryman finishing with a 75 for West Branch while his teamates Knopp and Bridges finished second and third with scores of 76 and 77.

Ty Jones, West Liberty’s top golfer all season, finished with an 86 to get honorable mention honors for the conference while Colin Cassady turned in a 90 for the 27th spot.

West Liberty's Preston Daufeldt turned in a 94 to finish at 37, Cole Daufeldt taking 58th place with a score of 101 and Cael Daufeldt finishing at 104 for spot number 67.

Jones parred just two holes on the course while Cassady parred five holes. Preston Daufeldt also parred a pair of holes while Cael and Cole Daufeldt both had birdies on par 3 holes.
