Duane Crees-Armfield, 81, died on Sunday, Dec. 17, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family.

A celebration of life will be held 2-6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, 2024, at the West Liberty American Legion where military honors will be performed at 3:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to Duane Crees Memorial Fund. The Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty is caring for Duane and his family.

Duane was born Oct. 7, 1942, in Iowa City the son of Ruby (Crees) Brayton and Robert Brayton. He attended West Liberty High School. From 1963-1966 he proudly served in the United States Marines. He was united in marriage to Margaret Dalton and later Patricia “Trish” (Collison) Crees.

Duane had farmed in the West Liberty area in his early years and throughout his life drove truck for many businesses in the area.

He enjoyed playing cards, BINGO, collecting antiques, going to flea markets, gambling at the casino, horse races and lottery tickets. He also enjoyed taking drives and visiting the kids/grandchildren and spending time with them.

He is survived by his wife Patricia Crees of Muscatine; children, Dawn (Tim) Schneider of Solon, Mike (Ann) Crees of West Liberty, Tamra McMichael of West Liberty, Shawn (Courtney) Crees of West Liberty; step children, Genette, Michael, Michele, Dennis, Patricia, Lisa, Summer; grandchildren, Tiffany Paul (Sid), Ryne Paul (Jill), Jake Crees, McKayla Crees, Paige Crees, Kyle Fry, Christopher McMichael (Jasmine), Jacqueline Bierman (Noah), Nicholas McMichael, Kohlton Kober, Logan Crees, Austyn Crees, Camden Crees and great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Kylie, Saylor, River and Iylah. He was also loved by his 44 step grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Ruby Brayton; brother Larry Crees; daughter, Kimberly Crees; father- and mother-in-law Wendall and Mary Collison.
