This week, the staff at the Muscatine County Fairgrounds announced that it has recently received a donation of $5,000 from the Frauenholtz family in memory of Robert and Shirley Frauenholtz, who were lifelong residents and farmers of rural West Liberty. The donation will be put towards the in-progress event center, which is expected to break ground in March of this year.

As stated by Robert and Shirley’s children, Bill and Susan Frauenholtz, their family has always loved their fair and has visited it each year, with they along with Robert and Shirley’s two grandchildren, Hillary and Adriane, all being exhibitors at the fair during their childhoods. Robert and Shirley also enjoyed other aspects of the county fair, such as the cattle and horse shows.

“Many of our family’s most cherished moments took place at the Muscatine County Fair,” Bill said. “We want to see the Fair thrive and grow so our grandkids can have the same great experiences and culture that we were fortunate enough to have.”

Prior to the donation, Bill and his wife, Michelle Frauenholtz, were already doing their part to take care of the fair through volunteer work and assisting with landscaping at several areas throughout their fairgrounds.

In response to the donation and the family’s overall efforts to stay involved, County Fair Manager Kelsey Meyers said, “I really can’t thank the Frauenholtz family enough for their dedication to the fair over the years and for this donation. It really is a true testament to their dedication to the fair and the future of the fair.”

The new event center is set to have a 500-person capacity with space for both 4-H Clubs and FFA Chapters to house their static fair projects during the annual festivities as well as host meetings and fundraisers at throughout the year.

To donate towards the project or sponsor an area of the project, residents and businesses can contact Meyers at 319-627-2414 or through email at muscatinecountyfair@gmail.com.
