Hall sisters bake Cookies for a Cause

Thanksgiving and Christmas treats raise money for hospice

Posted

In our tight-knit community of West Liberty, four sisters have discovered a sweet way to make a difference.

Sailor, Finley, Pearson, and Sully Hall have taken family traditions and transformed them into a holiday project with a purpose. Using cookie recipes passed down through generations, the Hall sisters began selling cookies during the Christmas season last year, and their success was so overwhelming that they’ve expanded their efforts this year to include both Thanksgiving and Christmas.

The sisters wanted to contribute to the community in their own special way, so they each baked their signature cookie recipe and sold them, donating the proceeds to charity. In their first year, they raised an impressive $1,000, which was donated to the Ronald McDonald House. This year, they’ve selected the BirdHouse Hospice Home in Iowa City and a hospice in Muscatine as their beneficiaries, based on recommendations from the community.

To streamline their operation, the sisters use Google Forms to track orders and ensure accuracy. Once they receive the orders, they buy the ingredients they need based on the number of cookies sold. Their marketing efforts include posting flyers around town and utilizing social media to get the word out about their cause.

Of course, like any budding entrepreneurs, they’ve faced challenges. Last year, setting fair prices for the cookies and managing their distribution proved to be tricky. But with teamwork, they overcame these obstacles and are even adding banana bread to their menu this year. The cookies, sold by the dozen, come in a variety of flavors including milk chocolate chip, semi-sweet chocolate chip, white chocolate macadamia nut, M&M, and molasses.

For the Hall sisters, this isn’t just about selling treats—it’s about fostering a spirit of volunteerism and giving back. Through their efforts, they’ve demonstrated the strength of family, tradition, and community. The cookie recipes hold deep meaning for the Hall sisters, serving as a way to connect with their family, remember the important lessons passed down to them, and inspire them to always pursue their dreams while making the world a better place for everyone. If you’re interested in supporting their cause and placing an order, you can do so via their Google Form here: https://tinyurl.com/ycefmdt8 . They accept Venmo, Check, or cash payments. All orders are due by November 21st and will be distributed the week of Thanksgiving.
