Helen LaVonne Schrum, 76, of Wilton, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 18, 2024, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. A visitation was held from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 21, at Bentley Funeral Home, Wilton. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 22 (today), at the funeral home. Helen was born on Nov. 9, 1947, the daughter of Lloyd and Ceola (Schuessler) Purcell. She graduated from Muscatine High School with the Class of 1965 and later attended Cornell College in Mount Vernon. LaVonne married Darwin Schrum on Oct. 11, 1982.
LaVonne, a beloved and devoted servant of the Lord, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, music, and faith. For over 30 years, she taught music out of her home, sharing her passion and expertise with countless students. An accomplished musician and composer, LaVonne also dedicated 30 years to the choir at New Era Lutheran Church in Muscatine. She was not only known for her musical talents but also for her exceptional cooking and baking skills, especially her roasted chicken. She cherished her many pets, who brought her comfort and companionship over the years. LaVonne will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched.
LaVonne will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Darwin. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Ceola; and her cousin, Beverly Kutcher.
