Iowa City Tire, owned by Andy and Renee Miller of Iowa City, is giving $10,000 to the West Liberty School District for the new athletic complex.

Iowa City Tire was started by Bill Brown in 1981. The business transitioned to Bill’s son in 2006 and was purchased by the Millers in July 2021. Andy said this project is necessary for youth programs to be successful.

“This project is a benefit to all the programs throughout the community,” said Andy. “It will benefit both teams and individuals so they can reach their full potential.”

Andy and Renee have two daughters in the West Liberty School District, 12 year old Avalynn and nine year old Taya. Both girls are active in West Liberty sports and fine arts programs. The family is very active in softball and Andy previously coached youth softball in West Liberty.

“Youth sports in West Liberty has been a very big part of my life over the past few years,” said Andy. “Those children I had the privilege to coach, their families and all future athletes deserve the very best we can offer.”

The fundraising for the new athletic complex has gone extremely well. The school has raised over $1.6 million for the project. The total fundraising goal is $2,000,000.

“We have had great success with fundraising,” said Adam Loria, Activities Director. “The outdoor facilities broke ground in September and we are now one step closer to planning for the new indoor facility. We really need both to have top-level programs and I’m very grateful for the Iowa City Tire donation.”

The school district hopes to hit the the $2,000,000 goal next spring so the planning and construction of the indoor facility can begin shortly after the outdoor facilities are complete. They plan to host the first events in the new outdoor facilities in fall 2023.

“Construction is moving along as planned,” said Superintendent Shaun Kruger. “The community of West Liberty has been very good to the school district. Word is spreading and we are getting lots of inquiries from out of town. A donation from an Iowa City business, like Iowa City Tire, goes a long way in continuing to promote the district to families in other areas.”
