Jim was born on Sept. 10, 1949, in Muscatine, the son of John F. Shryock and Betty Jane (McKillip) Shryock. Jim’s childhood was spent in Evansdale, Iowa. Lots of fond memories spent fishing. On May 28, 1969, he was united in marriage to Ana Maria Rocha in Silvis, Ill. Jim and Ana had been married for 41 years.
Jim had been employed at Rock Island Railroad and Rohner Machine Works. In 1991, Jim obtained his bachelor’s in liberal arts with a major in English. In 1994, Jim became a restaurant owner, along with his wife Ana, of the Buelitos Supper Club.
Jim loved his wife relentlessly. He enjoyed bluegrass music and fishing. Months prior to his passing, he spent frequent trips fishing. It was a good day when he caught fish. He enjoyed yelling for the “net’ girl. We can’t help but think Dad is probably laughing about the fishing trips, shopping trips and in awe of his great-grandson. Our hearts are grateful to have had the honor of calling Jim, Dad.
Jim will be deeply missed by his three children; Patty (Jon) Lawrence, Jimmy Shryock and his significant other Eugenia Cooley, and Wendy (Tom) Bowie. Six grandchildren; Brandon Wieskamp, Becca Holmes, Audrie Hootman, Derek Sparks, Phoebe Lawrence and Austin Lawrence. His great-grandson, Emmanuel Holmes. His sister, Nancy Coulter. Four brothers, John Shryock, Pat Shryock, Stephen Shryock and Rick Deniz. As well as spouses of siblings and extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ana, father, John F. Shryock, his mother, Betty Shryock, and extended family.
