Jazbeck Lopez se graduó de la escuela secundaria de West Liberty el año pasado y ahora estudia diseño interior y arquitectura en Kirkwood Community College. Este verano, estará en su segundo año en el programa y ya está comenzando a dejar su huella.
López se convirtió recientemente en una de las diez finalistas nacionales del concurso de diseño Durkan Discover. El gran premio será una beca de $2,500, el segundo lugar $1,500 y el tercer lugar una beca de $1,000. Además, la alfombra del ganador se venderá en el mercado. Los ganadores aparecerán en la revista Hospitality Design. La votación termina este 18 de mayo y luego sabremos quién es el ganador.
El Concurso de Diseño para Estudiantes Durkan DSCVR se estableció en colaboración con Network of the Hospitality Industry (NEWH) para exhibir el talento de los diseñadores en el campo del diseño hotelero y contribuir a la educación de futuros diseñadores. Durkan es el fabricante líder en EE. UU. de alfombras diseñadas a medida para la industria hotelera. Especializada en alfombras duraderas para espacios públicos, pasillos y habitaciones de huéspedes, Durkan ofrece soluciones para cualquier necesidad de diseño personalizado.
NEWH es el principal recurso de creación de redes para la industria hotelera y ofrece becas, educación, desarrollo de liderazgo, reconocimiento de la excelencia y oportunidades de desarrollo empresarial.
Los estudiantes de diseño interior, textiles y otros estudios de interiores comerciales de todo el país presentaron diseños frescos e innovadores para un espacio privado o público de un hotel. Los concursantes tenían que crear un tablero de historia/estado de ánimo basado en un tema de su elección. Las presentaciones tenían que incluir una redacción de un párrafo sobre su historia y por qué inspiró sus diseños. Tuvieron que seleccionar una paleta de colores utilizando un máximo de 12 colores que conectaran con su guión gráfico. Los participantes tenían que diseñar un paquete basado en su story/mood board en un espacio público. Tuvieron que diseñar un salón de baile y un espacio coordinado previo al evento.
El Programa de Diseño de Interiores ha sido una gran elección para Jazbeck. Ha aprendido perspectivas globales y diseño centrado en el ser humano, así como también ha adquirido conocimientos sobre el proceso de diseño. Una habilidad importante que Lopez ha perfeccionado es su competencia tecnológica a través de la utilización de una variedad de software de la industria como Enscape, Lumion y Sketch-up. Estos la han ayudado a adquirir habilidades de representación para diseñar y crear diseños, productos y presentaciones bidimensionales y tridimensionales. También ha aprendido a hacer planos de piso en AutoCAD y Revit.
En este primer año del colegio, Jazbeck logró muchos proyectos y está asombrada de su propia capacidad. Ella dice que aunque hay días en los que está cansada y quiere darse por vencida, está agradecida por el apoyo fenomenal que ha recibido de su familia.
Los padres de esta diseñadora siempre están a una llamada telefónica o mensaje de texto y continúan motivándola para que siga adelante. López proviene de una familia muy unida y mudarse de su casa para ir a estudiar fue una gran transición para todos. Le tomó un tiempo adaptarse a la transición, pero la experiencia le enseñó a Jazbeck a apreciar más a su familia y a ser más independiente. López también está agradecida con Dios y pone a Dios primero y confía en el proceso. Además, Jazbeck está agradecida con su profesora Jillissa Moorman, quien la motivó y le dijo que no se rindiera. Su apoyo ha aumentado la confianza de López.
Una de las experiencias memorables de Jazbeck en su programa de diseño fue ir a Chicago con sus compañeros de clase a visitar salas de exposición. En su programa, Lopez ha visto todas las maravillosas oportunidades que están disponibles para aquellos que desean seguir una carrera en diseño de interiores. Le gustaría que los estudiantes de secundaria sepan que sus pasiones pueden convertirse en una carrera. Lo más importante, "no importa qué, tu arduo trabajo vale la pena y puedes ser alguien grande en la vida". Ella dice que si tienes la oportunidad de hacer algo, ¡hazlo! No lo pienses. Hay otras personas a las que les pueden gustar tus ideas y apoyar tus proyectos. Además, López menciona que es importante no tener miedo a lo desconocido. Da un poco de miedo dejar atrás un lugar que es cómodo porque te preguntas si lo desconocido será bueno para ti, pero si no te sientes incómodo, no estás creciendo. Nunca sabes lo que aprenderás en el camino.
Jazbeck está emocionada porque este junio viajará a Sudáfrica y Zimbabue durante 20 días para aprender sobre la arquitectura de estos países. El verano siguiente, planea estudiar nuevamente al extranjero, pero a Italia. En el futuro, le gustaría viajar y hacer diseño residencial y comercial. Aunque creció en el pequeño pueblo de West Liberty, se ve mudándose a un estado más grande.
Enhorabuena Jazbeck por ese top diez en esta competencia nacional y por animarte a viajar a otro país para seguir aprendiendo. Estamos emocionados por los resultados finales y encantados de ver todas las puertas que se abrirán para ti con ese título de diseño de interiores en el futuro.

Jazbeck Lopez graduated from West Liberty High School last year and now, she is majoring in interior design and architecture at Kirkwood Community College. This summer, she will be in her second year in the program and she's starting to leave her mark.
Lopez recently became a top ten national finalist for the Durkan Discover Design Competition. The grand prize will be a $2,500 scholarship, second place $1,500, and third place will get a $1,000 scholarship. Additionally, the winner's carpet will be sold in the market. Winners will be featured on the Hospitality Design Magazine.Voting ends this May 18 and afterward we will find out who is the winner.

Students majoring in interior design, textiles and other commercial interior studies from around the country submitted fresh and innovative designs for either a private or public space of a hotel. Contestants had to create a story/mood board based on a theme of their choice. Submissions had to include a one paragraph write up about their story and why it inspired their designs. They had to select a color palette using a maximum of 12 colors that connected with their story board. Participants had to design a package based on their story/mood board in a public space area. They had to design a ballroom and a coordinating pre-function space.
The Interior Design Program has been a great choice for Jazbeck. She has learned global perspectives and human-centered design as well as gained insight on the design process. An important skill that Lopez has honed is her technology competency through the utilization of a variety of industry software like Enscape, Lumion, and Sketch-up.These have helped her acquire rendering skills to design and create two-dimensional and 3-dimensional designs, products, and presentations. She has also learned to make floor plans on AutoCAD and Revit.
This past year, Jazbeck has accomplished many projects and is amazed at her own capacity. She says that even though there are days when she is tired and wants to give up, she is thankful for the phenomenal support she has received from her family.
This designer's parents are always a phone call or text message away and continue motivating her to keep going. Lopez comes from a tight knit family and moving out to attend college was quite a transition for everyone. The transition took a while to get adjusted, but the experience taught Jazbeck to appreciate her family more and to become more independent. Lopez is also thankful to God and puts God first and trusts the process.
Furthermore, Jazbeck is grateful for her professor Jillissa Moorman who motivated her and told her not to give up. Thesupport has increased Lopez' confidence.
One of Jazbeck's memorable experiences in her design program was going to Chicago with her cohort to do showroom visits. In her program, Lopez has seen all the marvelous opportunities that are available to those who wish to pursue a career in interior design. She would like to let high schoolers know that their passions can become a career. Most importantly, "no matter what, your hard work pays off and you can be someone big in life!". She says that if you have the opportunity to do something, do it! Do not think about it. There are other people who may like your ideas and support your projects. Additionally, Lopez mentions it is important to not be afraid of the unknown. It is a little scary to leave behind a place that is comfortable because you question whether the unknown will be good to you, but if you aren't uncomfortable, you aren't growing. You never know what you will learn on the way.
Jazbeck is excited because this June, she will be going to South Africa and Zimbabwe for 20 days to learn about their architecture. The following summer she plans to study abroad again in Italy. In the future, she would like to travel and do residential and commercial design. Although she grew up in small town West Liberty, she sees herself moving to a biggest state.
Congratulations Jazbeck for that top ten in this national competition and for expanding your worldview by traveling to another country to continue learning. We are excited for the final results and delighted to see all the doors that will open for you with that interior design degree in the future.
