Kenneth Leon Minor, 82, of West Liberty, died on Dec. 20, 2023, at his home in Sun City, Ariz.
Ken was born in Winston, Mo., Dec. 6, 1941, to Rex and Geneva Minor. The family moved to West Liberty when he was a young child.
Ken attended school in a nearby one room schoolhouse north of West Liberty through 8th grade and West Liberty High School, graduating in 1960.
After high school, he served in the Army reserves after completing basic training in Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.
Ken worked many jobs, mostly for local farmers, before purchasing his first farm on which he raised hogs, corn and soybeans for over 50 years, until his passing.
On June 2, 1963, Ken married Linda (Goodsell) of Greene, Iowa. They were married 57 years, living in West Liberty, until her passing in 2020.
Ken was a member of the West Liberty Lion’s Club, West Liberty Golf and Country Club, and the West Liberty School Board where he served as Vice President. He was an avid traveler, enjoyed Friday nights at the Country Club, attended Hawkeye football games (he and Linda were season ticket holders for decades), and loved being social. His children (and Linda) would tell you that wherever they went, they always had to wait because Ken would be visiting with someone, even if it were a stranger.
Ken was preceded in death by his wife Linda, his parents Rex (Pearl) Minor and Geneva (Jack) Lloyd, stepbrother Harry Lee, his uncle Don (Mary) Minor and is survived by his sons Kevin (West Liberty), Chad (League City, TX), and grandchildren Kurtis (West Liberty), Shania (Coralville) and Elena (League city, TX).
A celebration of life will be held Friday, Feb. 9, 2024, at the West Liberty Country Club beginning at 6 p.m. Family inurnment will be in the North Prairie Cemetery, West Liberty.
