As someone who lives just outside of the northwest side of West Liberty, I am not in favor of any further annexation. Two areas already inside the city limits, North Walnut Street and Highway Six, lack sidewalks and storm sewers.
The lack of sidewalks is a particular issue as people frequently walk to businesses in this area such as the pharmacy, and children walk to and from activities.
It would be better for the city to improve the northwest side of town before taking on additional responsibilities. What incentive do residents in this area have to become city taxpayers if we can’t enjoy the full benefits of being part of the city?
