Miller-Meeks voting record doesn't work for Iowans

The middle class struggles because our elected representatives, such as 1st District Republican Mariannette Miller-Meeks, do not work for us - We the People.

Miller-Meeks supported privatizing Social Security during the Bush administration (Ottumwa Courier 10/9/08).  Not surprisingly, she recently voted to approve the House budget resolution, which is a blueprint for future cuts to the social safety net so Republicans can fund tax cuts for the wealthy. To pay for President Trump’s proposed tax cuts ($1.5 trillion) will require total destruction of Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.

She also she voted in favor of the disastrous SAVE Act that erodes voting rights. In fact, in 2022, Miller-Meeks praised voter restrictions calling them “modernized” election laws as she voted against the “For the People Act” that strengthened voting rights.

Again in 2022, Dr. Miller-Meeks complained for weeks during Covid about the baby formula shortage, then voted against an emergency funding bill during the supply chain interruption (HR 7790).  Likewise, she voted against bringing jobs home to the U.S. in the CHIPS Act after complaining: “We’re already seeing supply chain issues because of the lack of semiconductors.” (Fort Madison Daily Democrat, 8/11/22)

I wish I could explain why Miller-Meeks, a physician, callously voted against the 2021 American Rescue Plan that helped Americans financially through the pandemic. (Iowa Starting Line, 6/14/24)
