Executive Director of Veteran Affairs Eric Sanders has won the All-Star Community Advocate award presented by Tyler Technologies Inc. through its second annual Veterans Service Officers Excellence Awards.

The award honors veterans service officers who use Tyler’s applications to process and submit benefit claims to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the company’s press release said. Tyler is the market leader in veterans’ claims management software.

“The VSOs recognized this year provide exemplary service to those who have served in our nation’s armed forces, helping veterans more easily access all the benefits they have earned through their military service,” the release said.

Sanders is among five nationwide who were honored in various categories.

“By leveraging Tyler’s VetraSpec software, Eric streamlined the claim processing and increased benefits payouts by more than 30 percent,” the release said. “His advocacy efforts extend beyond his county, playing an instrumental role in the passage of Iowa Senate File 2430, which benefits Vietnam War veterans. Eric’s commitment to veteran support is also evident in his community engagement, public speaking, and successful advocacy for a combat-wounded Vietnam veteran’s long-overdue Purple Heart.”

Board member Nathan Mather alerted the board of Sanders’ award.

“I’ve seen press from across the pond in Europe reporting on it, so it’s very much a big deal,” Mather said. “It shows just what a great, great advocate we have for veterans in Eric and just really appreciate everything he does.”
