Xiomara Levsen, a journalism graduate of St. Ambrose University, has experience in daily and weekly newspapers in the Washington and Kalona communities, has been appointed the new editor of the West Liberty Index, it was announced this week by Publisher Bill Tubbs.
Levsen, who resides in Riverside, will take over duties for Tim Evans, who has been the editor of the Index the past three years. Evans will be working with Levsen the next several weeks to acclimate the new editor to the community and the position.
Levsen earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree with an emphasis in journalism and communications in 2007 and has worked as a freelance writer for the Quad-City Times, a news writer for the Kalona News and a news writer/photographer and lifestyles editor for the Washington Evening Journal.

“I’m excited to get going, meet people and get to know the community more,” Levsen said.
She has two grown sons, Dennis and Dustin, and her husband, Greg, who is studying cyber-security and is a member of the Stumptown Shooters. He is employed with his father at Levsen Organ Company, helping with rebuilding and repairing pipe organs.
Levsen started her duties Thursday, May 12.
